I’M A HAPPY MUSLIM!

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim…

From the title, I’m pretty sure some can guess what I’m gonna write about. Yeap, it’s about the song Happy by Pharrell Williams but the Happy British Muslims version. To those who don’t know what’s that, just search on YouTube “Happy British Muslims” and you’ll get it.

There are of cz many opinions on this video and this is mine (& inputs from my husband). I’m not sharing that video on my post because I won’t share things that can misrepresent the true meaning of Islam. So you got it! I’m violently against that video.

WHY GOD WHY??? WHY IS SHE ALWAYS AGAINST EVERYTHING???

There are many reasons why.

Firstly, (I’m sorry but I’m not being sexist towards my own gender) there are ladies dancing around and the whole world is watching at them! Aren’t we supposed to hijab (cover) ourselves from our non-mahram brothers? Come on, there are other ladies out there that are trying their best to represent Islam in it’s most pure form, and just by that 4 minutes video, the whole world now thinks that Muslimah around the world are supposed to dress and behave that way. For what? As a form of liberation and free from oppression?

Our perspectives on liberation and free from oppression are so influenced by the West!

However so, it is also not right for guys to jump around to prove to the whole world that they are happy! What type of Khalifah are we trying to build here? You mean you can still give your utmost respect to your Ustaz/Ustazah if you see him/her dancing and jumping around in that video? Imagine your friend showed you the video in class, and you saw the teacher that’s teaching you at that  moment was in the video jumping around like a monkey. So what you gonna do next? You’re gonna mimic whatever your teacher was doing in that video! If my future son gonna show me that kind of video with his teacher in it, I will not think a second to get him out from that class. Or… I will not hesitate to be a typical Singaporean mum and complain to the school about that particular teacher.

Of cz, bro. It’s a serious issue.

Secondly, do we really need a happy video as a proof that we Muslims are happy? Why so superficial??? Why are we so concerned of what people think about relating Islam with terrorism? There’s nothing more detrimental than trying to “eradicate” this misconception with a bunch of Muslims dancing around which supposedly to show that we Muslims are peaceful people; just like people of other religions. Their intention is right, but their actions are totally strayed away from the real teachings of Prophet Muhammad SAW! On top of the misrepresentation of Islam that media has already portrayed, we’re just adding salt to the wound by showing to the world another side of Islam that is also being misrepresented! So when the real Islamic teachings are brought across, then it must be a Wahabi teaching. LOL.

Most people don’t think of the consequences when they do something.

I’m sorry. I’m not trying to be sarcastic from the start but just look at how much we’ve strayed away from what our beloved Prophet PBUH has taught us? Which brings me to my third point.

Why do we have to fit in so hard in order for others to accept Islam? Do we really need to resort to happy video, music or anything likened to it so that we get accepted by the society?

“Oh, we need to keep ourselves updated and we must give da’wah in accordance to the evolution of time!”

So you mean during our Prophet’s time, his society had no such thing as dancing, music, etc? Well my friends, their lives were entertainment. They were always dancing, singing, drinking intoxication, partying, … you name it, you get it. If in the past that era was called Jahiliyyah, we are also experiencing modern Jahiliyyah right now.

Starring… all of us!

Every Muslim knows that our Prophet PBUH is the best of mankind and he’s the most exemplary human being. So why not we follow his footsteps? Why not we do what he did, and leave what he left? Don’t we believe and have faith in his wisdoms?

If we do, then we should stop spreading Islam with entertainment elements in it! Prophet PBUH has never danced, sang or played musical instruments, in order to attract people into Islam and we know that his society was far much worse than ours!

Remember my friends… We don’t have to stoop so low till it brings damage to this beautiful religion of Allah SWT that Prophet Muhammad SAW had painstakingly placed in this world. He suffered so much so that Islam could flourish and we repay him back by making a joke of Islam…?

Please… For a moment just think of our actions. Before we want to do something or attend an event, please think again if our Prophet PBUH will ever do that. If we truly love him, then we should emulate his actions because his actions were of the Quran. I believe, only by that way, can we truly liberate Islam from the hands of the irresponsible.

The Messenger of Allah PBUH said: “Islam began as a something strange and it will return to being strange, so blessed are the strangers.” [Sahih Muslim]

The Messenger of Allah PBUH said: “There will come a time when holding on to your Iman (belief) will be like holding on to hot coals” [Tirmidhi]

Islam gets so strange till people get confused between truths and lies. It takes great Iman and lots of sacrifices to hold on to this strangeness. So rejoice even if you’re alone in this journey in seeking the truth.

Before I end, being happy is not only through physical means. To achieve happiness means to achieve peace and tranquility in our heart with the constant remembrance of Allah SWT; to do good and leave evil.

“The Unbelievers say: “Why is not a Sign sent down to him from his Lord?” Say: “Truly Allah leaveth to stray whom He will; but He guideth to Himself those who turn to Him in penitence (repentance). Those who believe and whose hearts find satisfaction in the remembrance of Allah: for without doubt in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find satisfaction. For those who believe and work righteousness is (every) blessedness and a beautiful place of (final) return.””(Ar-Ra’d:27-29)

The West likes it when we are becoming similar to them. Can’t you see why?

Wallahualam.

  1. Tony says:

Religion is simple n complicated. Simple when only one is concern n complicated when many people r involved. Because everyone is right in their own eyes.
But it is destine to be complicated cos as it grows many people become involved. what happens when a whole nation is involved ? In parts of Iraq n Syria they r trying to form a caliphate. If they succeed maybe they can show us, n Islamic states, a thing or two.
